Mt. Suribachi Photo
Black and white photograph believed to have been taken a few minutes after the first flag-raising on Mt. Suribachi on Iwo Jima. A Navy photographer gave this photograph to the donor, Ben J. Weber, Army (corporal), attached to the 4th Marine Division, within the first 12 days on Iwo Jima. According to the donor, "The photographer said that there were so few ARMY attached to the 4th Marine Division that he thought they should have a piece of history to take home if they made it". The donor gave this photograph to the museum to remember all the men who did not come home.
