Overview
Jeeps were used in various capacities throughout World War II. This vehicle is an example of a “Follow Me” Jeep used for guiding aircraft on and around runways. Because many airstrips were busy areas and ground visibility could be limited from the cockpit of a plane, these Jeeps were often painted solid yellow or in a yellow and black checkered pattern. Some would also have signs painted with “FOLLOW ME” on the back of the vehicle instead of or in addition to their bright paint jobs.
