Webinar: Old Breed General
Join the National Museum of the Pacific War for our January webinar entitled, "Old Breed General.” During this 30-minute webinar registrants will hear from authors Amy Rupertus Peacock and Don Brown.
"Old Breed General" tells the remarkable story of Marine Corps General William H. Rupertus, a pioneering military leader who served from 1913 to 1945. Born in Washington, DC, Rupertus was a distinguished Marine who commanded troops in Haiti, Cuba, and China, and became a pivotal figure in the Pacific theater during World War II. His distinguished career includes being the commanding officer of the first ground victory in the Pacific at Tulagi (Aug. 9, 1942) and serving as the longest-serving division commander of the 1st Marine Division.
A remarkable military scholar and warrior, Rupertus is perhaps best known for writing "My Rifle the Creed of a United States Marine," published in March 1942, which became an iconic document of Marine Corps ethos. His extraordinary service was recognized with significant honors, including the Navy Cross presented by Admiral Nimitz and a US naval destroyer named in his honor. This book, co-authored by Don Brown, a former US Navy JAG officer, finally brings to light the untold story of a Marine Corps legend who overcame personal tragedy to become a crucial military leader during one of the most challenging periods in American military history.
