Road to Victory: Tarawa

On November 20th, 1943, men of the 2nd Marine Division landed on the narrow beaches of an island called Tarawa. In only 3 days of fighting, the US Marine Corps and the US Navy would take over 3,000 casualties on an island only about half a square mile in area. Join us on October 4th to examine the big questions of the campaign: “Why did we land on Tarawa?”, “What happened during the battle?” and “Why does it matter?”.
During the program, the living history volunteers of Company K will engage in a battle presentation including simulated explosives, WWII vehicles, blank firing guns, and a live M2-2 flamethrower!
Presentations are offered at 11:00 and 2:00. This presentation is not recommended for small children, pets, or those with heart conditions.
