Arthur Beaumont: An Artist's Interpretation of the Navy

Charity Roberts

Geoffrey Beaumont, son of naval artist Arthur Beaumont, and James Irvine Swinden, president of the Irvine Museum in California visited the museum and had a great conversation with Karen Stevenson, Director of the National Museum of the Pacific War, about Arthur Beaumont's work. The museum, in Fredericksburg Texas, is hosting Beaumont's "Art of the Sea" exhibit in its' temporary gallery until the end of 2022. This interview enlightens us about how Beaumont interpreted the U.S. Navy through his watercolor painting style as the official artist for the Navy before and during the Pacific War.

The Irvine Museum will donate, upon written request, a set of the museum's publications to any grade school, high school, college or university as part of our educational outreach program. Go to the link to request your copy.
