Summer Ambassador Program

The Summer Ambassador Program at The National Museum of the Pacific War (NMPW) offers an immersive introduction into the museum world. As an ambassador, you will explore museum careers, gain hands-on experience, and participate in behind-the-scenes opportunities. While at the NMPW, you will also have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge about World War II in the Asian-Pacific Theater and the Home Front.

2024 Schedule:

  • May 28th-August 3rd
  • 10 weeks long
  • 20 hours a week
  • Weekly schedule to be arranged by supervisor (flexible hours)

NMPW does not grant academic credit. However, we will work with ambassadors to provide letters of support that verify the student's participation in the program.

Available Position Descriptions

Interpretation/Docent

The National Museum of the Pacific War (NMPW) is seeking an organized and outgoing ambassador to assist with interpretive and educational programs. As an ambassador, you will facilitate a deeper engagement with our visitors and build an interpretive foundation for the stories our Museum shares. This position will provides a unique opportunity to research, develop, and present your very own interpretive program. Applicants must be comfortable with public speaking, have strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

Museum Programming

The National Museum of the Pacific War (NMPW) is seeking a creative, self-motivated, and outgoing ambassador to assist the Education and Museum Programming team. This position will support overall operations and gain hands-on experience planning, facilitating programs, and developing educational resources. As an ambassador, you will engage museum guests and help them discover the meaning and relevance in the stories shared by the NMPW. Applicants must be comfortable with public speaking, have strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrate computer literacy, and have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

Living History

The National Museum of the Pacific War (NMPW) is seeking a creative, self-motivated, and organized ambassador to assist the Museum Experience team. As an ambassador, you will engage visitors through living history, develop interpretive programs, and assist with historical research. This position will also assist with inventorying and cataloging the Education Outreach Collection for an up-close-and-personal experience with World War II artifacts. Applicants must be comfortable with public speaking, have strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Additionally, applicants must be comfortable with simulated battle scenes, weapons, and loud noises due to the nature of our reenactments.

Marketing

The National Museum of the Pacific War (NMPW) is seeking an ambassador to work in a fast-paced, four-person marketing department. This position provides general administrative support, assists with community outreach, helps with marketing projects, and aids in the production and shipping of signage, posters, brochures, and more. Applicants must be self-motivated and prepared for a hands-on experience. To qualify, applicants must be computer literate and demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Prior work or volunteer experience appreciated.

Audio/Visual Marketing

The National Museum of the Pacific War (NMPW) is seeking a self-motivated and creative ambassador to work alongside the marketing department. This position assists with script-writing, videography, photography, and general marketing duties. Applicants must demonstrate strong verbal and communication skills and experience in photography, videography, and Adobe Suite software is preferred.

Membership

The National Museum of the Pacific War (NMPW) is seeking a self-motivated and detail oriented ambassador to assist the Membership Coordinator. Members help support the museum and are a crucial for accomplishing our mission. This position provides general administrative support, assists with event planning and execution, marketing, content development, data entry, and membership sales. Applicants must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication and be familiar with database management, Excel, and file management.

Event Coordination

The National Museum of the Pacific War (NMPW) is seeking an outgoing and organized ambassador to assist the Events Coordinator. The 55,000 square foot campus accommodates small and large events in both indoor and outdoor settings. This position will assist with event planning and scheduling, upkeep of facilities and inventory, event set-up and break-down, and other duties as assigned. Applicants must be comfortable with public speaking, organized, and capable of lifting 30lbs.
