Texas Historical Commission
The Texas Historical Commission (THC) is the state agency for historic preservation.
THC preserves and operates 22 state historic sites across Texas including the National Museum of the Pacific War. Other sites related to World War II and U.S. armed forces include the Eisenhower Birthplace in Denison, the Sam Rayburn House in Bonham, and three frontier-era forts in West Texas – Fort Griffin, Fort McKavett, and Fort Lancaster. THC staff consults with citizens and organizations to preserve Texas history through its architectural, archaeological, and cultural landmarks. The agency is recognized nationally for its preservation programs and works to develop local historic sites for the economic betterment of their host communities. Agency employees work in various fields, including archaeology, architecture, history, economic development, heritage tourism, and urban planning.
