Founded in 1971 as a 501(c)(3), the Admiral Nimitz Foundation, in an agreement with the Texas Historical Commission, manages and provides financial support to the State-owned National Museum of the Pacific War to:

  • Preserve and exhibit the material history of the war in the Pacific and Indo-China during World War II;
  • Offer and participate in programs that honor all veterans past and present and in programs that provide strategic insights into national security issues affecting our country;
  • Support education concerning the American experience in the Pacific Area during World War II;
  • Preserve and exhibit the material history of Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz; and,
  • Provide the public, researchers, teachers and historians with a readily accessible platform for the exploration of the War in the Pacific during World War II.

The Foundation engages visitors through a variety of exhibitions and programs to accomplish the above mission. The Museum features four separate buildings of galleries and exhibits, and six outdoor exhibit areas. The Foundation also runs and operates three museum stores and a variety of multi-functional spaces.

Certified by the American Alliance of Museums and a member of the Smithsonian Affiliates, our staff and departments collaborate to advance the Museum's mission to educate and inspire present and future generations about World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and the relevance of its lessons.

Custodian (Part Time)

Position

Reporting to the Maintenance Director and supervisor of custodial services, the Custodian will be part of a team responsible for maintaining and protecting our facilities. The external and internal appearance of a building reflects on the occupants. It is important for a custodian to be detail-oriented, careful and thorough in working and cleaning. The ideal candidate will be experienced in a custodian role focused on building upkeep. They will have physical endurance to cover a large space and a keen eye for detail and diligence.

Part-time hours range from 25 - 28 hrs. per week.

Responsibilities

· Must clean and maintain all buildings of the Admiral Nimitz Foundation and the Museum of the Pacific War, following the cleaning schedule and supervisor’s direction.

· Must be a willing and cooperative team member of the Maintenance department.

General Tasks and Duties

· Clean all interior areas of restrooms, restock all items within the restrooms.

· Wet mop/dry mops all areas as required.

· Clean all glass areas, which includes windows, counters, display cases, etc.

· Empty trash in all areas cleaned and otherwise instructed.

· Use a floor machine/buffer, and other related equipment.

· Apply cleaning chemicals as appropriate to the material being cleaned. Read and understand all MSDS Safety Data Material.

· Must have attention to detail when cleaning.

· Complete forms on Maintenance office computer.

· Report to maintenance items in need of repair or attention. (A copy of the Maintenance Repair Sheet or Request form to be completed.)

· Attend safety meetings and other related meetings.

· Perform other duties as needed and designated.

Qualifications

· High school diploma or GED.

· Must be an effective communicator, able to listen well and speak English clearly.

· Experience in custodial work is required, along with ability to perform all aspects of custodial/maintenance duties.

· Must be able to read and follow instructions and directions.

· Knowledge of cleaning methods, standards, and sanitation regulations.

· Skill in use of custodial equipment, materials, and the safe handling of chemicals.

· Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.

· Must be able to safely climb a ladder.

· Basic computer skills are required. Additional forms on the computer to be completed, timesheets, send/receive an e-mail, maintenance request forms, as well as any other forms to be completed.

· Must maintain daily proper hygiene and grooming.

· Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, and holidays.

· Ability to work irregular hours.

· Ability to work independently as assigned.

Environment and Physical Conditions

· Building environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact.

· Work will involve walking, standing, and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Compensation

This is a Part-Time position paying $16.00 per hour. The applicant’s lifestyle must be flexible enough to work evenings and weekends, when required. Uniform shirts are provided.
